Grade: Moderate/Strenuous   22 days total/19 days Trekking
2 nights Kathmandu, 3 nights Paro, 1 night Thimpu

Setting out from Paro, in a northwesterly direction, our objective will be to do a circuit past the two highest peaks in Bhutan Jhomolhari (Chomolhari) (7315m) and Jitchu Drake (6850m), passing the awesome Jhomolhari glacier and crossing the Nyile La pass, continuing on to Lingshi. We will spend some time visiting the Gyo Gompa and Lingshi Dzong (monestary/fortress). Following the Lingshi Chhu valley and staying parallel to the Tibetan border we will enter slightly more remote territory. Crossing the Gombu La pass(4280m), Jare La pass(4758m) and then the Sinche La/Shangri La pass(5000m)  to the foothills of Mt Gancheta or ‘Great Tiger Mountain’(6840). We will then turn East to our northernmost objective the remote and fascinating village of Laya. This village, characterized by the unique dress of the women and their use of incredible turquoise and silver jewelery, will be a rare opportunity to see Bhutanese life in it’s reality. The first tourists only arrived to Laya in 1987. After a rest day in Laya, we will turn south to begin the trek back to Thimpu. Stopping at hot springs and traversing an incredible bamboo forest. Wild life we may encounter throughout the trek includes Himalayan Blue Sheep, Eagles, Griffin, Vultures, Yak and Takin. We will also hope for a possible ‘Bear Sighting’!

This trek is designed to be physically challenging and culturally rich. We will have plenty of time to visit and explore the local monastery, homes and interact with the people of Bhutan.

Our experienced trekking support team will make sure every possible care is taken to make your trek comfortable and memorable. We will try to offer you interesting, healthy, and well balanced food throughout the trek. A guided program will be organized in both Kathmandu and Paro to help you discover and enjoy these two fascinating cities. Tents, kit bags, sleeping bags, and liners are provided by us for your convenience and comfort. In addition to our local Bhutanese guides, we will be accompanied by 1 European U.I.G.A.M. per 5 people. This allows for everyone to have the support and expertise of a mountain professional.
