The Glaciers de la Vanoise is located between the Tarentaise and the Maurienne, we will start from Pralognan "Petit Chamonix" de la Vanoise.
It is a superb itinerary in the heart of the National Park, an area preserved since 1960.
The paths that we will follow will sometimes be dizzying but often the path and the view are superb. The comfort of the Vanoise shelters is excellent ...



Trekking Tour at the feet of the Vanoise Glaciers

A superb Wild Trekking around Glaciers and in the Heart of the National Park, Nature has resumed its rights here for a long time and Man takes pleasure in living with Nature. A return to the Sources, which will do you good.

The flora is very varied like the landscapes, due to a great geological variety.
Ibexes, Chamois, Marmots, Eagles and Lammergeiers will share our path.
 

DAY 1: SUNDAY
Meeting at the Fontanettes car park.
PRALOGNAN - PARKING OF FONTANETTES - COL DES ROSSET - COL DE LA VANOISE - REFUGE BETWEEN TWO WATERS

Elevation: + 1000 m and - 500 m
Walking time: About 5 to 7 hours

We start above Pralognan and join the Rosset pass, the path is fairly regular and the view of the Domes of Vanoise and the Grande Casse (3855m) is magnificent, the large walls of the Aiguille de la Vanoise, of the Grand Marchet are facing us, Pralognan "Petit Chamonix" values ??its reputation. At the Vanoise pass of a superb lake for lunch before quickly descending to the Croe Vie bridge and reaching the Refuge d'Entre Deux Eaux, we will discover the production of Bleu de Termignon and make cheese purchases for the coming week. DAY 2: MONDAY
TWO WATER REFUGE - LAKE ROCHE FERRAN - CHASSEFORET LAKE - ARPONT REFUGE - ARPONT LAKE

Elevation: + 850 and - 600 m
Walking time: 6 to 7 hours of walking mainly off-trail

We leave the country of Marmots and mountain pastures to reach the Nival floor, we will spend the day on the moraines and scree near the superb lakes under the Vanoise glaciers. A superb day off-trail in good weather, in case of bad weather we will stay on the trail, lower but much faster to reach the refuge of Arpont. At the refuge we will put the bags and for the motivated we can go up to the splendid lakes of L'Arpont then we will enjoy the new Refuge de l'Arpont which is very beautiful and comfortable.

DAY 3: TUESDAY
REFUGE DE L'ARPONT - BALCONIES OF HAUTE MAURIENNE UNDER THE TOOTH PARACHE - REFUGE DU FOND D'AUSSOIS

Elevation: + 600m and - 600m
Walking time: About 6 to 7 hours of balcony paths or alternating ascent and descent.

We leave by a superb balcony path under the Dent Parachée (3697m), the Haute Maurienne valley and its glaciers are in front of us, we feel a little of the Southern Alps here, the terrain and drier and the different landscapes, we meet the flocks of sheep and the famous Patou which are used to protect the sheep from the Wolves, indeed they are impressive by their size. Your guide will give you some instructions so as not to disturb them ... The arrival at the Fond des Fours refuge will be well deserved and we will surely share a good local beer.

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY
REFUGE DU FOND D'AUSSOIS - POINTE DE L'OBSERVATOIRE (3015m) COL D'AUSSOIS - REFUGE DE LA PECHE

Elevation: + 900m and - 1400m
Walking time: 6 to 8 hours of walking

We go up with the sunrise which is nice considering the altitude of the refuge, the view at the top of the point of the observatory is magnificent especially since we arrive quite early before the cumulus clouds reach the summits, the descent this fact after the meal and nap so that the snow returned on the descent of the pass, the Vanoise glaciers overhang us and we see again the valley of Pralognan. Here the valleys have been hollowed out by the glaciers of the last glaciations, the Ariande circus will be the last showcase to discover the day before arriving at the Refuge de la Pêche whose comfort is unusual in the mountains.

DAY 5: THURSDAY:
REFUGE DE LA PECHE - LAKE OF VALETTE - REFUGE OF VALETTE

Elevation: + 800 m and - 400m
Walking time: 4 to 5 hours

Small day, we take the balcony paths and enjoy the valleys, under the Domes of Arpont (3599m), Nants (3570m) and Sonnailles (3361m).
The Valletta refuge is a little corner of paradise, we will enjoy it.

DAY 6: FRIDAY:
REFUGE DE LA VALETTE - CIRQUE DU PETIT MARCHET - COL DU GRAND MARCHET - CIRQUE DU DARD - PRALOGNAN- FONTANETTE

Elevation: + 1000m and - 1500m
Walking time: 6 to 8 hours of walking

We end with the most technical and perhaps the best day, if the weather is not in the game we will descend by the Prioux and the day will be shortened.
We will pass on fairly vertiginous paths, cables and ladders are in place to facilitate the passage, at the end of the week we were able to progress well and we are preparing for the difficulty especially that we have already done the mountain . Your guide will take the time to help you and shorten the day in the middle of the day. The cirques of Petit and Grand Marchet are as magnificent as that of Dard, where one of the largest avalanches in the Alps sometimes descends certain winters.
We end the day in Pralognan, a pretty little village in Vanoise.

The backpack

If possible take a light backpack with good carrying, the backpack should not exceed 1.5 kg.

Backpack for 5 to 6 days:

 
Leters:
  • Small people: 40 liters max
  • Tall people : 50 liters max

Your backpack must have 10 to 15 liters of space for picnics that you will carry for lunch.

Kilos to carry - It is better to wash than to carry:
  • Small size: 6/7 kilos max, without water and food
  • Large size: 8/9 kilos max, without water and food

Count 2 liters of water and 1 kg of food for the day.
Count an extra kilo for 10-day treks.

Head-to-toe material for the Trek:

  • 1 cap or hat for the sun
  • 1 Hat for the cold
  • 1 optional buff or choker but very pleasant in bad weather
  • 1 Jacket Type Gore Tex or similar windproof and waterproof
  • 1 pair of gloves, waterproof if possible
  • 1 additional pair of ski warm gloves for altitude treks
  • 1 warm fleece or thick down to withstand negative temperatures
  • 2 sweater: a light one and a warmer one, if it's cold you can put all the layers on
  • 3 Technical T-shirts
  • 3 underwear and 3 - 4 warm socks, you can wash them in the torrents near the shelters (1 solid soap to wash)
  • 1 Warm pant
  • 1 Tight
  • 1 Lighter pant, there are pants that you can zip off to make shorts
  • 1 Short
  • 1  waterproof over-pant  (Gore tex or other) for Trek with altitude passes around 3000m.
  • 1 light rain hood or waterproof bag protector
  • 1 waterproof bag to keep items dry inside your backpack
  • 1 bag for dirty things
  • 1 light sheetbag for sleeping at the huts
  • 1 pair of light slippers for the refuge, in case you do not want to wear the hut' slippers or a pair of light Trail shoes.
  • 1 pair of mountain shoes with Vibram type sole of good quality or similar: if possible try ans wear your shoes before the trek, watch out for old shoes which can deteriorate very quickly in the mountains.

  • What to make small dressings
  • Some compresses and plaster or better Strappal

Your guide will have a more complete pharmacy in the event of a larger accident.

For realx time: A small book or Card game (less than 150 grams)…

Necessary for meals:

  • 1 TuperWare large enough to contain a nice salad for lunch
  • 1 light knife: Opinel type
  • 1 Fork and 1 Spoon
  • 1 nice specialty to share with the rest of the Team, liquid or solid

The hiker's enemy is weight, but a frozen or soaked hiker is a hiker without pleasure, so take the time to properly pack your bag.

Insurance

Cancellation and repatriation insurance is advised as well as other insurance guaranteeing search and mountain rescue (10,000 Euros guarantee approximately).

Access

How to reach Bourg Saint Maurice, 73700
  • By train, access by TGV to Moutiers Train Station;
  • By car from Albertville, access by expressway to Moutiers, which is 2 hours drive from Lyon.

Meeting on the first day

On the first day, the meeting will be directly in front of the Train Station in Moutiers at 8:30 in the morning. From there a bus trasport will take the whole group to Pralognan, the trekking departure point.

Last day - departure

You will be back at Moutiers train station around 5:00 p.m. Do not take any transport before 6.30 p.m.
