The Program
Check-in possible from 2:00 pm.
Meeting with your trekking guide at 4:30 pm for the week briefing and backpack check.
You will still have time to go for last minute shopping before dinner, in case you forgot something.
Vertical drop: + 1100 m and - 200 m
Walking time: 5 to 6 h
We leave at 8:00 a.m. by bus to reach La Joux in Italy, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by Taxi. We then take the path of the Ruitor Waterfalls, the path is sheltered by the forest and refreshed sometimes by the beautiful waterfalls, which allow a walk on the fresh air.
At the third waterfall we arrive in the alpine pastures and then we reach the hut: we will drop off our backpacks to set off light towards the Ruitor glacier. We will pass by the Green, Gray and Superior Lake, the place is magical and the return to the refuge for a good Italian meal puts us all into the journey. With a bit of luck, a wonderful sunset over the Mont Blanc Massif will close the evening.
Vertical drop: +500 m and - 900 m
Walking time: 5 to 6 hours
We leave early to take advantage of this beautiful day, we reach the Lac des Séracs by a cabled path to facilitate the progression, we will then join the valley of Bellacomba and its lakes, then those of Tachuy where Mont Blanc reflects. At the Col du Tachuy we cross the border to return to France, the Lacs du Petit allow us to maybe have a swim before reaching the Ruitor refuge.
Vertical drop: + 600 m and - 600 m
Walking time: 5 h of walking
We will walk up in the pastures and we will cross pretty streams to reach the Col de Monséti which overlooks the Black Lake at the feet of the Bec de l’Âne. If the group is motivated, we can go up to the Col de la Sassière to extend the day by 300 m of vertical elevation. We will eat at the lake where we can imitate the marmots at nap time. The descent to reach the Archeboc hut will be quite fast.
Vertical drop: + 1250 m and - 900 m
Walking time: about 7 hours
The climb to Col du Mont is quite fast between the Ruitor Massif 3486m and Archeboc 3272m, from Col du Mont the view is magnificent over the Valgrisenche Valley: it is one of the wildest valleys in the Alps. We will eat at the Lake San Grato before reaching out the Epée Hut by a great ancient larch tree forest. Once at the refuge we will enjoy the Italian and Aosta Valley gastronomy.
Vertical drop: + 1250 m and - 1000 m
Walking time: around 7 hours
Today we will be walking on a great balcony path at the feet of the Grandes Aiguilles Rousses 3607m: we will pass the Col Refreita, the path will lead us to the beautiful San Martino Lake. We will then walk off the trails to reach the Col de Bassac where we will get a great view on Gran Paradiso (4061m) and the Grande Sassière (3747m) . We will finally walk down to the Mario Bezzi refuge, where we will spend the night.
Vertical drop: + 1150 m and - 1800 m
Walking time: around 8 hours
We will leave the Mario Bezzi Hut at the feet of the Grande Sassière to climb to Col Vaudet: the path crosses valleys where there may be snow at the start of the season, now that you are used to walking in the mountains you will be at ease.
Before the pass we will arrive into a valley where the path is much better, to finally return to France. We will then pass by Lac Noir and Lac Blanc again, and by Lacs Verdets and Lac du Clou, this off-trail should leave you some great landscapes engraved in your memory and your camera, to greatly end one of the most beautiful Treks in the Alps.
The day may be reduced in case of bad weather ...
Another small climb to reach the Col de l'Aiguille before walking down to the Sainte Foy station, where we will be waiting for the bus to bring us back to Bourg Saint Maurice.
Dinner and night in hotel in Bourg Saint Maurice/Seez.
